This page explains how Hypothesisly uses cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage). We keep them to a minimum, and we use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
What we use
- Essential — authentication. Our authentication provider (Clerk) sets session cookies that keep you signed in and the app working. These are required — the service can’t function without them, so they aren’t optional.
- Preferences — theme. Your light/dark theme choice is stored locally in your browser (a small value under the key ‘theme’), not on our servers. Clearing your browser data resets it.
- Analytics — product usage. Where we measure product usage, it is limited, aggregated, and privacy-respecting — used only to fix bugs and improve the product. We don’t use it for advertising, we don’t sell it, and we don’t load third-party ad-network or cross-site tracking tags.
What we don’t use
No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, no data brokers, and no selling. We don’t build advertising profiles of you.
Your choice
When you first visit, a banner asks for your cookie choice: “Accept all” enables the limited analytics described above, while “Necessary only” keeps just the essential cookies. Analytics is only enabled with your consent, and you can change your choice at any time:

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and clear site data to reset your preferences. Note that blocking the essential authentication cookies will stop you from signing in.
